This project involved designing a professional magazine centered around a chosen theme. I selected technology and organization, topics that resonate with my personal interests. The goal was to create a publication that balanced the sleek, modern aesthetic typically associated with tech magazines while incorporating elements of traditional pen-and-paper organization. This blend of digital and analog concepts aimed to reflect the intersection of innovative tools and timeless productivity methods, resulting in a cohesive design that appealed to a diverse audience.
After selecting my topic, I began brainstorming ideas for a name and logo. Since the magazine focused on using technology to organize everyday life, I chose the name Tech and Tidy, a playful nod to both innovation and order. I then sketched various layouts and wireframes, drawing inspiration from Pinterest to explore creative approaches for multi-page spreads.
Once my sketches were finalized, I transitioned to InDesign, placing placeholder images and blocks of lorem ipsum text to establish spacing and hierarchy. The assignment required four articles, so I brainstormed relevant topics and assigned each to specific pages. After selecting imagery to complement the content, I wrote the articles and replaced the placeholder text. With some final adjustments and refinements, the magazine was complete.
The final product was a polished, cohesive magazine design that effectively conveyed its theme of technology and organization. Each element, from the layout to the typography and imagery, worked together to create a visually engaging and functional publication. The clean, structured design reflected the magazine’s focus on bringing order to life through tech, while the thoughtful integration of content maintained a sense of clarity and balance.
Through this assignment, I developed valuable skills in page layout and design, gaining a deeper understanding of text hierarchy, spacing, and alignment. I also honed my ability to combine text and images in a way that enhances readability and visual appeal. Additionally, this project sharpened my attention to detail and reinforced the importance of creating a seamless flow across multi-page spreads, ensuring that both the design and content were consistently engaging.
